78hp turbocharged diesel. 4kva diesel generator

Moondance is a Branson steel hull professionally fitted-out to a YACHT STANDARD finish, (no amateur IKEA stuff in here!), and launched in 2004. A variety of beautiful hardwoods have been used in the expert fit-out.
The galley is in English Chestnut, the saloon in Lebanese Cedar, bedrooms in Cherry, bathroom in mahogany and the wheelhouse in Sapele. Lighting is 12 volt recessed halogen.

She is fitted with a Volvo 78hp turbocharged diesel. This is the same engine as the Ford Sabre and the Perkins, just different brand-markings. The Perkins workshop manual, (supplied), works with the Volvo. This is interesting in that it makes for very good spares availability and interchangeability. No hour meter is fitted, but logbooks suggest a total time of about 500 hours. The engine is smooth, reliable and starts at a touch of the button. It is just nicely run-in and ready for thousands more hours of good service.

A Mase 4Kva 220volt diesel generator is fitted in a soundproof box in the engine room. This has just over 200 hours total time from new. Remote panel with start/stop and computer-monitored auto protection cutouts is in the main electrical panel in the galley.

A 1500 watt sine-wave inverter powers 220volt electrical equipment from the battery bank when mains or generator power is not available.

All batteries, (with the exception of the generator start which still seems fine), were replaced at the start of the 2010 season. Engine start is a Bosch 110 amp hour, and house batteries are 4X110AH Lucas deep-cycle, sealed, marine batteries for a total of 440 amp hours @ 12 volts..

A Lofrans Kobra 12 volt power anchor windlass on the foredeck uses two further 110AH batteries.

All batteries are charged by a "Sterling" marine charger when connected to shore-power, or when the generator is running. Battery charging system is  computer monitored and constantly automatically-controlled. When the main engine is running this charges everything.

An isolation transformer is fitted

Moondance is spray-foam insulated throughout and centrally-heated. A diesel furnace runs 5 hot-water radiators and a heated towel-rail in the bathroom.

A hot water tank in the engine room provides hot water throughout the boat. Heating is by multiple means: Electric immersion heater when 220 volt is available, (timer fitted), heat-exchanger from the diesel furnace when that is running, or calorifier from the main engine when under way.

A Burglar alarm system with multiple zone motion detectors phones any selected cell-phone or land-line to warn of illegal entry.

A drip-free deep-water seal ensures  a trouble and maintenance-free passage of the drive-shaft through the hull. There is a bilge-water alarm and an automatic bilge pump

Moondance meets all European standards for waste water disposal. She has a single button, automatic, electric toilet with black-water holding. She has electric pump-out equipment, and a manual back-up pump-out.

She has gray-water holding with a Whale, "gulper" pump-out, and carries a new, spare pump. This is typical of her level of equipment. There are redundant systems, and spares to ensure that most simple breakdowns can be repaired on-the-spot, and that she can continue to navigate and operate on back-ups until positioned for professional attention.

Cabin by cabin description fore to aft:

Forward double cabin: All in beautiful woods. Hot-water radiator, four foot double bed with memory foam mattress, wardrobe, smooth-running drawers, 220 volt and 12 volt sockets, Roof hatch. Access to water-pump and anchor windlass batteries.

Bathroom: A superb finish. Hip-tub bath with shower-over. Quality hand-basin, mahogany storage cupboards, concealed lighting. Toilet in separate cabin opposite with macerator and electric flush. Full holding and pump-out.

Saloon: Carpet tiled for easy cleaning and access to under-floor tanks, (spare matching tiles to replace high-traffic areas when eventually needed). A generous supply of 13 amp 220volt sockets, here and throughout the boat, (never a need for a messy extension lead) and a 12 volt ring-main. Two hot-water radiators, bookshelves and mini-office. Telephone point, T.V. aerial socket and large roof hatch. Best quality sofa-bed, circular table, (folds to half-moon), two office chairs, pine storage chest. A curtain on rails set in the roof, (a bit like those ones in hospitals), closes two sides and isolates the starboard side of the saloon when the sofa-bed is in use, giving privacy for the occupants should someone pass through the passageway from the aft cabin to the toilet in the night.

Galley: Superbly-equipped with excellent range of open shelves and storage cupboards. Four burner hob and split eye-level oven and grill are fed by two propane cylinders in a ventilated compartment on the aft deck. There is a domestic-apartment-sized 12volt DC fridge and separate freezer. There's a 220 volt refrigerator for use when on shore-power for longer periods, (on winter-mooring for instance). A Zanussi "studio-apartment" automatic washing machine is concealed under one of the counters and drying racks, (like those you might find over a country kitchen range), are fitted in the main skylight recess  One-and-a-half sink and drainer with adjustable pillar tap. Work surfaces are solid "Avonite", (Corian equivalent). Concealed waste-bin on slide-out runners. High quality vinyl flooring.

Folding Wheelhouse: All fittings in superior woods and inlaid leather. Hydraulic steering, engine gauges, Garmin GPS with European sea and land maps. Inmarsat BGAN internet terminal,  VHF, multiple power sockets. Access to engine below. This is a proper replica barge with opposing doors, (barn-style -- can open top half only if desired), making for easy rope-handling from the helm. I've single-handed this barge through locks.

Aft Cabin: Lebanese Cedar paneling. Hot-water radiator, twin 2 metre beds, multiple power-outlets. Access to aft-storage locker and steering quadrant. Access to stern-gland below floor. Storage under starboard bunk.
